When you think of modern board games in Spain, one name comes up again and again behind the best-selling boxes: Devir. It's the Barcelona-based publisher that brought Catan to Spanish almost three decades ago, the one that publishes Carcassonne in Spanish, Catalan, and English, and the one that has turned The Color Monster into a tool already used in many preschool classrooms. At Híper Ocio, we are official Devir distributors, and the Martínez family has been selling their games over the counter for decades, so in this guide, you won't read inflated marketing: we'll tell you what we have in our catalog right now, the appropriate age for each game, and how to choose wisely.
We have organized the article by families—Catan, Carcassonne, kids' games, party games, eurogames, and new releases—with reference (SKU), price, and a direct link to the product. All games listed are in actual stock in our Albox (Almería) warehouse as of May 2026. If you still have questions after reading, text us on WhatsApp at 625 325 295, and we'll help you choose.
Devir was founded in Barcelona in 1987 as a comic and role-playing game publisher, and from the 90s onwards, it became one of the leading publishers of modern board games in Spanish. Their biggest achievement was bringing Catan to Spain through German author Klaus Teuber: for years, they were the only ones publishing it in Spanish, Catalan, and Portuguese, and they still hold that exclusive on the peninsula. The same goes for Carcassonne, another great eurogame classic.
Beyond licensed games, Devir publishes its own catalog designed by Spanish and international authors: The Color Monster (with Flamboyant publishing house), Ghost Blitz, Go Cuckoo!, Beacon Patrol, Ierusalem Anno Domini, Salton Sea, and 3 Ring Circus. Their editorial line is broad: from reaction games for 4-year-olds to dry eurogames for seasoned groups, including all the party games derived from Codenames. In practice, if you walk into a store and only buy Devir boxes, you'll have a complete game library for the whole family.
For Híper Ocio, Devir is one of the core brands in our board game section. We have worked with them as authorized official distributors for many years, which means the games come directly from the publisher, with intact packaging, and if any component is faulty, we can manage part replacement through the official channel.
Catan (formerly The Settlers of Catan) is probably the most influential board game of the last 30 years. It's about building settlements, gathering resources, and negotiating with your rivals on an island built with hexes. It's the kind of game you'll return to throughout your life, which is why Devir publishes it in many versions. Here's what we currently have available:
If you've never played Catan and are thinking of starting, the typical question is: Catan Junior or Catan base? Quick rule: if the youngest players are 6-8 years old, Catan Junior. If everyone is 10 years or older, Catan base. The 5-6 player expansions are cumulative: you need the expansion for the corresponding module (Traders & Barbarians, Cities & Knights, Explorers & Pirates) plus the base. Don't mix modules until you've played the base game a few times.
Carcassonne is the other great eurogame classic in the Devir catalog. The idea is simple: each turn you draw a tile, place it next to those already on the table, and build cities, roads, monasteries, and fields. You score points as you complete these structures and depending on where you place your meeples. It's one of the games with the best balance between depth and learning curve on the market.
A practical note about Carcassonne: the "adult" base game is not always continuously in stock at Devir (it varies with reprints), so if you're looking for it and it doesn't appear on the website, call us on WhatsApp and we'll notify you when it's back.
Devir has a very carefully curated children's section, almost always featuring Iberian authors and publishers. These are the ones we currently have available:
Codenames is one of the great party games of the last decade, and Devir publishes it in Spanish in several versions. The basic mechanic: two teams, a "spymaster" for each team, a grid of words or images, and one-word clues for your team to guess which agents belong to them before the rival team does.
If you have a seasoned group at home and want denser boxes, this is the substantial part of the Devir catalog. These aren't games to bring out with 6-year-olds; these are boxes for long afternoons with friends and a couple of in-depth games:
Authorized official distributors. We are not a store that buys from Amazon Marketplace and reships: we work directly with Devir. The boxes we sell come from the publisher, with all guarantees and an open channel to manage part replacements if necessary.
Extensive catalog and real stock. In our Albox warehouse, we have hundreds of Devir boxes in stock any day of the year (more than 600 units across all active references). What you see on the website is usually exactly what's available that morning; when something is out of stock, we mark it.
Martínez family selling games since 1923. Four generations behind the counter, so when you call WhatsApp to ask if a game is suitable for your 7-year-old or if it's a good gift for a group of 6 adults, you'll be answered by someone who has held the box in their hands.

Catan Junior is the adapted version for children aged 6+: faster pace, a board with pirates, and simplified rules. Catan base (10+ years) is the original game with all its trading, building, and negotiation mechanics. If adults and children over 10 will be playing, go for the base game. If it's for little ones aged 6-9, choose Junior.
No. The 5-6 player expansions (Merchants & Barbarians, Cities & Knights, Explorers & Pirates) require both the base Catan game and the corresponding expansion (the 3-4 player version). Each 5-6 player extension incorporates two additional settlers into its eponymous module.
