Toimsa: official children's bikes and helmets (2026 guide, Spain)

When a child learns to ride a bike, the brand on the frame is almost always the same: Toimsa. This company from the Valencia region has been the main supplier of officially licensed children's bikes in Spain for decades (Peppa Pig, Bluey, Paw Patrol, Frozen, Minnie, Disney Princesses, Superman, Batman, SuperThings), and it is also the exclusive distributor of Huffy bikes. At Híper Ocio we work with Toimsa as official distributors and keep plenty of stock all year round. In this guide we explain how to choose the wheel size for your child's age, which models we have in stock right now and the details that matter (brakes, stabilisers, basket, doll seat...).

Updated in September 2026. Four things we have learnt since publishing this guide. Who Toimsa are and why it matters

Toimsa (Toy Industria Manufacturera S.A.) is a Spanish company based in Ibi (Alicante), one of Europe's great toy-making centres. It has been producing children's bikes since the 1970s and today holds the official Spanish licences for the major children's franchises: Disney (Frozen, Princesses, Minnie, Mickey, Cars), Universal/Hasbro (Peppa Pig), Spin Master (Paw Patrol), BBC (Bluey), Magicbox (SuperThings) and Warner/DC (Batman, Superman). It also distributes Huffy bikes in Spain, the American brand that specialises in themed bikes.

Their reputation is not only down to the licences: Toimsa bikes meet the European EN-71 standard (the toy safety standard), are approved for use by children and, on models with stabilisers, the front and rear brakes usually come well adjusted from the factory. It is a product designed for shops and for Three Kings' Day and First Communions, not for online sales without context.

How to choose the wheel size for your child's age

The most common mistake when buying a first bike is getting the size wrong. It is not measured by the child's age alone: it is measured by inside leg height, which tells you whether their feet reach the ground. As a rough guide:

10" Rider Bike (no pedals): 2-4 years. For learning balance before pedalling. Minimum child height 85-90 cm.
12" bike with stabilisers: 3-5 years. First bike with pedals. Child height 95-110 cm.
14" bike: 4-6 years. When they have mastered pedalling but still want stabilisers or have only just taken them off. Height 105-120 cm.
16" bike: 5-8 years. A "proper" bike, usually without stabilisers by now. Height 115-135 cm.

If you are unsure between two sizes, the rule of thumb we give at the counter is: the child should be able to touch the ground with the tips of both feet while sitting on the saddle. If they can only reach with one foot, or their feet hang in the air, the bike is either too small or too big. Rider Bike: 10" balance bikes without pedals (2-4 years)

Bikes without pedals (known as balance bikes or Rider Bikes) are the modern, recommended way to teach children to ride. The child pushes along with their feet on the ground and learns balance without the complication of pedalling. When they move on to a bike with pedals, they already have their balance and hardly need stabilisers. These are the ones we have:

12" bikes with stabilisers (3-5 years)

The first step up to a bike with pedals. All Toimsa 12" bikes come with removable stabilisers and front and rear brakes, and the frame is designed so little ones can get on and off easily. Models in stock:

14" bikes (4-6 years)

The intermediate size. For children who already pedal well and want more height and more speed and, in many cases, are ready to take the stabilisers off. All come with stabilisers, which can be removed once the child needs them less. Models in stock:

16" bikes (5-8 years)

Toimsa children's helmets: the other half of the kit

A helmet is not optional. In Spain it is compulsory for under-16s on any public road. The €17.99 Toimsa helmets are adjustable and come in the same themed designs as the bikes, so it is easy to make a matching set. Models in stock:

Our advice from the counter: choose a helmet by size (head circumference), not by age. Toimsa children's helmets adjust with a rear dial and usually fit a 48-54 cm circumference. If in doubt, measure around your child's head with a soft tape measure (just above the eyebrows and ears) and check before buying. If you would prefer an unlicensed, more neutral helmet, the Moltó Red Star adjustable helmet (€22.99) covers ages 3 to 8 and works equally well for a bike, scooter or battery-powered vehicle.

Huffy: the premium line

Some bikes in the range carry the Huffy brand as well as Toimsa. Huffy is a century-old American brand that holds the rights to many Disney licences (Frozen, Princesses, Minnie, Mickey, Cars), and Toimsa is its official distributor in Spain. Huffy bikes usually have a slightly more premium finish (better paintwork, somewhat sturdier components) and a slightly higher price. The ones we have: Frozen 12" (€134.99), Disney Princesses 14" (€139.99) and Minnie 16" (€149).

Is Híper Ocio an official Toimsa distributor?

Yes, we are authorised official Toimsa distributors. The bikes and helmets come directly from the manufacturer in Ibi (Alicante), in a sealed box, with assembly instructions and the EN-71 safety certificate.

Which bike size should I choose for my child's age?

As a guide: 10" without pedals for ages 2-4, 12" with stabilisers for ages 3-5, 14" for ages 4-6, 16" for ages 5-8. Do Toimsa bikes come assembled?

Do Toimsa helmets meet European standards?

Yes, Toimsa helmets meet the EN-1078 standard, the specific standard for cycling helmets. They are adjustable (48-54 cm circumference), have side ventilation and a padded inner band. Please remember that in Spain helmets are compulsory for under-16s on any public road.

What if my child is still too small for a bike?

Is a bike or a scooter better for a 4 or 5-year-old?

It depends on how it will be used. A bike teaches balance and pedalling and is the classic purchase for Three Kings or a First Communion; a scooter is cheaper, takes up much less space and can go out every day with no preparation. Can I return a Toimsa bike if I am not happy with it?

Yes, you have 30 calendar days to return it under our returns policy, provided it is unassembled and in its original packaging. If you have already assembled it, it cannot be returned as it counts as used. Return postage is paid by the customer, unless the bike arrives faulty or is the wrong item.
