How to choose a washing machine 2026: practical guide for Almanzora and Levante Almeriense

A washing machine is purchased every 10-12 years, lasts twice as long if well cared for, and accounts for 10% to 15% of household electricity consumption. Making a mistake is costly, and most errors come from looking at the price before looking at what really matters. This is our honest buying guide for 2026, based on what our customers most frequently ask us at the Albox showroom.

First: Measure the space before looking at models

It sounds obvious, but it's the most expensive mistake. Measure the width, height, and depth of the space where the washing machine will go before looking at anything. Also note the plinth depth and the width of the entrance door frame to the house (especially in old blocks in Almanzora; more than one customer has returned a machine because it wouldn't fit through the hallway).

  • Standard washing machine: 60 cm wide.
  • Slim washing machine: 40-45 cm wide, capacity up to 7 kg.
  • Typical depth: 50-65 cm. If your space is for an open-plan kitchen or small utility room, look for reduced-depth models.
  • Height: 84-85 cm for countertop height, except for integrated models (consult).

Capacity: how many kilograms do you really need?

The practical rule we give in-store:

  • 1-2 people: 6-7 kg is sufficient.
  • 3-4 people: 8-9 kg, the best-seller for families in Almanzora.
  • 5+ people or with babies: 10-12 kg, especially if you wash bedding and large towels.

Oversizing is not worth it: a 12 kg washing machine filled halfway consumes more water and energy per load than an 8 kg machine filled completely.

Energy class: the biggest long-term saving factor

The current European energy label ranges from A to G. The previous one (A+++ etc.) was re-scaled in 2021, so a current A is more demanding than an old A+++.

Actual annual difference between a class A and a class D for a family of 4 people: €40-80 per year in electricity and water. Over a 12-year lifespan, we're talking about €500-1,000 in savings. It's worth paying €80-150 more for a machine of a better class.

RPM: why spin speed matters

More revolutions per minute = drier clothes when they come out = less dryer or clothesline time.

  • 1,000 rpm: basic, useful if you dry a lot in the sun (works in Almería).
  • 1,200-1,400 rpm: the sweet spot for most families.
  • 1,600 rpm: almost dry clothes, but more vibrations and higher price. Recommended if you live on an upper floor with a solid structure.

Inverter motor: the only thing worth it in the mid-range

The inverter motor electronically regulates speed instead of mechanically. Three real advantages:

  • Less noise: 60-65 dB when washing, 70-75 dB when spinning. Makes a difference if the washing machine is near the living room or bedroom.
  • Less vibration: extends the life of the bearings and the machine itself.
  • 10-year motor warranty on most brands (Beko, Bosch, Samsung, LG). Important because the motor is the most expensive part to replace.

Brands: those we recommend for 2026

We work with several brands because each excels in a particular area:

  • Beko: our best-seller in Almanzora for value for money and nearby technical service. 8 kg models from €350-450.
  • Bosch / Balay: benchmark for reliability and durability. A bit higher in price (€450-600) but worth it over 12 years.
  • Samsung: good for quick programs and connectivity (mobile alerts).
  • Infiniton: Spanish brand in a more affordable range, good for second homes or small houses.
  • Whirlpool / Indesit: solid option in the mid-range.

What is NOT important (even if they try to sell it to you)

  • 20 different programs: at home, only 4-5 are used at most (cotton, synthetics, delicates, quick wash).
  • Wi-Fi and app: it's nice but few people use it for more than a week.
  • "Top" European brand with a Chinese motor: check the motor's technical sheet and warranty, not the sticker.
  • Steam function: useful for allergies and nothing else.

How we deliver it to you at Híper Ocio

We sell washing machines and other large appliances only in our service area: Valle del Almanzora, Levante Almeriense, and the Los Vélez region. We deliver them with our own van, two people will bring them to your home no matter how high (third floor without a lift included), we install them professionally with a certified technician, connect the water inlet and drainage, and take away the old washing machine for waste management.

If you live outside the area but are looking for the same machine, we can still advise you via WhatsApp 625 325 295. We do not offer national shipping for appliances because we prefer that the appliance arrives well and is properly installed, not abandoned at a doorway.

We work with Aplazame: up to 12 months interest-free on purchases that meet the minimum amount. A €450 washing machine comes out to about €38/month with no surcharges. More info at /pages/financiacion.
