May is here, and the same old questions start popping up: how many BTUs do I need? Inverter or not? Portable or split? Is it worth spending more on a good brand?
We've been installing air conditioners in the Almanzora Valley for decades. We've climate-controlled small apartments, huge farmhouses, offices, and commercial premises. And if there's one thing we've learned, it's that there's no such thing as a perfect air conditioner: there's only the perfect air conditioner for your home.
This guide helps you choose wisely. No technical jargon, no hype, no trying to sell you the most expensive option. Just what you need to know to make the right choice.
The rule is simple: calculate about 100 BTUs per square meter. A 20 m² room needs about 2,000 BTUs. A 30 m² living room needs about 3,000. And a large space of 45-50 m² needs 4,500 or more.
However, there are factors that might mean you need a bit more power: if the home has a lot of sun exposure, if the insulation isn't good (common in local houses), or if it has very high ceilings. If in doubt, send us a WhatsApp message and we'll advise you without obligation.
For a bedroom or a normal-sized room, a 2,200-2,500 BTU unit is more than enough. The important thing here is that it's quiet, because you'll be sleeping with it on.
Our recommendations:

The Orbegozo FDI93 is a compact split unit with 2,200 BTUs, inverter technology, and A++ efficiency. Reliable, quiet, and with a price-quality ratio that's hard to beat. Ideal if you're looking for something that just works, without complications.
If you want integrated WiFi to control it from your phone, the Skyluxe 2,500 BTU is a very interesting option for its price.
This is where most sales are concentrated. A living-dining room, a large office, or a small commercial space needs between 3,000 and 3,500 BTUs. And here, it's worth investing a little more, because it's the unit you'll use the most.
Our recommendations:
The Orbegozo FDI125 with 3,000 BTUs is the ideal entry point for a living room: inverter, A++, R32 gas, and WiFi included. We've installed it in dozens of homes, and it's never given us a problem.
If your living room is a bit larger or has a lot of sun exposure, the Orbegozo FDI123 with 3,500 BTUs is the smartest choice: same reliability, 500 more BTUs of margin, and a very competitive price for what it offers. If you're undecided between the two, go with the 123.

The Beko BEHPG125 also offers 3,000 BTUs with included WiFi and the guarantee of a well-known brand. A very good option if you already have Beko appliances at home and want to keep everything with the same technical service.

If efficiency is your priority, the Daitsu Artic DS-12KZ is one of the most efficient options in this range: A+++ in cooling, inverter technology, and very low consumption that makes a difference in your electricity bill in the long run.
And if you want the best of the best: the Mitsubishi MSZ-HR35VFK. A+++ efficiency, integrated WiFi with the MELCloud app, as low as 20 decibels of noise, and reliability that's hard to match. It's more expensive, yes, but it's a unit that will last you 15 years without any trouble. If you can afford it, it's the one we recommend.
Very large living rooms, commercial premises, warehouses, or homes with open-plan spaces. Here you need 4,500 BTUs or more, and the quality of the unit matters a lot because it will be working at full capacity for many hours.
Our recommendations:
The Orbegozo FDI185 with 4,500 BTUs is our top recommendation for large spaces. Inverter, A++, WiFi, and a very low noise level for its power. We know it well, we have it in stock, and Orbegozo's after-sales service in the area works well. Hard to beat in this range.

For even larger spaces, the TCL Elite 6,000 BTU is a silent beast that can cool up to 60 m² effortlessly.
If you're renting, if it's for a second home, or if you simply don't want construction work, a portable unit is the solution. They're not as powerful as a split unit, but they do the job, and you just plug them in and go.
Our recommendations:
The Artica AAP0729SM with 1,763 BTUs is compact, easy to move, and comes with a window kit included. Perfect for individual rooms. We've had it running in the store, and it's surprising how quickly it lowers the temperature.
If you need more portable power, check out our entire range of portable units to find the model that best suits your space.
This is important: all the models we sell are for both cooling and heating. You're not buying a device for three summer months; you're buying year-round climate control. In winter, a heat pump is much more efficient than an electric radiator and costs a fraction of what a diesel system consumes.
We don't just sell you the unit and leave you to it. We have professional installers who cover the entire Almanzora Valley: Albox, Arboleas, Zurgena, Cantoria, Albanchez, Fines, Partaloa, Oria, and surrounding areas.
Standard installation (with up to 3 meters of copper piping between the split unit and the compressor) costs €180. If your installation requires a longer run or has any special features, we'll provide a quote without obligation.
We install within 48-72 hours if you need it urgently.
If you still have doubts after reading this, that's normal. Every home is different, and sometimes the best option isn't the most obvious. Send us a WhatsApp message, tell us the size of your room, and we'll tell you exactly which unit is right for you. No obligation, no sales pitch.
