Christmas and Three Kings' Day 2026: calendar, stock and deadlines without the stress

The morning of 3 January is the hardest day of the year at our counter on Avenida 28 de Febrero. A father comes in, coat still on, and looks at the shelf where a week ago there were five boxes of the toy his daughter asked for. There are none left. He asks us, with that look we know by heart: «Do you have any left in the back?». And very often the honest answer is no: the last one went on the afternoon of the 24th, and the manufacturer's warehouse will not restock until February.
We have been behind this counter for four generations, since 1923, and we can assure you that the question we hear most in December is not «what should I buy?». Anyone can answer that one. The real question is «will it arrive in time?». This year we want to answer it with a concrete calendar, not with good wishes.
Here are the dates that matter from October to Three Kings' Day: when to reserve what sells out every year, the last day you can order for it to be under the tree on Christmas Eve, the last chance for Three Kings' Day and what to do when the star toy disappears. We will not promise you last-minute miracles, because at the height of the season delivery times stretch, and we would rather you knew in October than on 3 January. If you are unsure about a particular order, message us on WhatsApp at 623 04 44 20 and we will look at it together.
The season's calendar, month by month
Spreading your shopping over time saves you money and upset. Almost all the stress and overspending in December comes from the same thing: buying in a hurry in the last few days, when you get whatever is left at whatever price it happens to be. This is how we divide up the windows:
- October. The time to finalise the list, not to buy on impulse. This is when it is worth sitting down with your child and helping them choose the three or four things they really want. The sooner the letter is finalised, the less likely you are to face an impossible dash on 4 January.
- November. The key window. This is when you reserve what sells out: the standout LEGO set of the year, the licence of the moment, new releases with small production runs. If you are genuinely worried something will run out, November is when it needs to be set aside in your name.
- Black Friday, at the end of November. A good time for prices, a bad time for peace of mind on stock: the most sought-after items start to run short right then. Buy what you had already decided on and do not get carried away by all the noise about deals.
- First half of December. The comfortable zone to order with delivery and sleep easy. Delivery times still have some breathing room.
- 15 to 24 December. Last call for Christmas Eve. From the middle of the month couriers are overloaded and every day counts.
- 26 December to 5 January. The final stretch for Three Kings' Day. This is when the most people are buying and the least is left. We look at it in detail below.
Note one thing: planning the letter and planning the shopping are the same thing seen from two sides. If you help your child decide early on what they really want, you have time to reserve it. If the list is still open on 2 January, you are already buying whatever is left over.
What sells out every year and is worth reserving early
Not everything sells out. A standard board game or a regularly restocked soft toy you will almost always find. The problem is specific and repeats every season: the big licences and the most popular new releases. What was on the shelf in the first week of December disappears just when most people are looking for it, and a few hours before Three Kings' Day getting hold of the most popular toys is simply impossible.
What tends to fly off the shelves, from our experience at the counter:
- The children's licences of the moment, such as Stitch, PAW Patrol, Bluey or Gabby, which change every season but always sell strongly.
- The standout LEGO set of the year and the most eye-catching licensed sets. You can browse the range in our LEGO collection.
- The large Playmobil boxes and the seasonal themed sets.
- New releases with small initial production runs: once they are gone, they take weeks to restock, and sometimes they do not come back before Three Kings' Day.
And there is one expense almost nobody plans for that also sells out in the last few days: batteries and accessories. Button batteries and packs of AA disappear from the shelves on the afternoon of 5 January, just like the toys. If the present needs batteries, buy them in November at the same time as the toy, and do the same with the extra train track, the console memory card or the additional controller. You do not want the star present assembled and lifeless on the table because there was not a single button battery left in the whole town.
The last day you can order for delivery by Christmas Eve
Now for the delivery dates, which is where people take the biggest risks. We are giving you reference windows, not exact days set in stone, with a warning up front: at the peak of the Christmas rush, the usual delivery times of 24 to 48 hours easily stretch to 48 or 72. That is why we work with margins and not with the very last day.
For a mainland order that needs to be under the tree on Christmas Eve, the simple rule is this: the first half of December is safe ground, and from 18 or 19 December you are entering the zone where everything depends on the volume that day. For the Balearic Islands and more distant destinations, bring that limit forward by a couple of days.
Our honest recommendation is not to leave it to the last minute. An order placed in the first half of December arrives without any surprises; one placed on the night of the 19th will depend on luck. Remember that for toys and small appliances, delivery within Spain is free from €49.99, so grouping several presents into a single early order usually works out better than ordering them one by one at the last minute.
The last chance for Three Kings' Day: why the afternoon of the 24th is already too late
Three Kings' Day is trickier than Christmas Eve, because people think they have more leeway and they do not. For mainland delivery in time for the night of 5 January, use the turn of the year as your mental deadline: an order placed around 30 December has a chance; after that date you are playing with fire and with the extended delivery times of the season.
And this is what surprises many people: for a good number of the most sought-after toys, the afternoon of 24 December is already too late. Not because there is no time to deliver them, but because there are none left. Most of the season's purchases are concentrated in the last few days, and what was in stock in the first week of December vanishes just when most people are looking for it. Whoever turns up on 3 January is not up against the delivery calendar: they are up against an empty warehouse.
That is why it is worth treating Christmas Eve and Three Kings' Day as two separate shopping trips, spread out over time, and not as one big spree on the morning of the 24th, rushing between errands. If you already know what you want for Three Kings' Day, reserve that in November too.
Home delivery or in-store collection: when each one suits you
At Híper Ocio you have three ways to receive your order, and during the season choosing well takes the pressure off:
- Free delivery within Spain from €49.99 on toys and small appliances, to the whole of mainland Spain. This is the convenient option if you live far from Albox or if the present is going straight to someone else's home.
- Our own van for large items, that is, white goods, cookers and hobs, and televisions, and only in the Valle del Almanzora, the Levante almeriense and Los Vélez. These do not go by national courier: we deliver them ourselves. If you live locally and the present is a large appliance, we will agree the dates directly and leave it at your home.
- Collection from our shop in Albox, on Avenida 28 de Febrero. The safest option of all on the busiest days: you reserve, we set it aside in your name and you collect it whenever you like, without depending on any courier or delivery time. In the last week before Three Kings' Day it is, by far, the option that gives you the most peace of mind.
If some of your presents are local and others are going further afield, combine the options: large items and last-minute purchases, collection in store; whatever is going to the grandparents' home in another province, early delivery in December. A note for those outside the area: we do deliver air conditioning units and wine coolers to the whole of mainland Spain by Correos Express, at a cost per unit and without installation. For white goods or televisions outside the Almanzora, Levante and Los Vélez, unfortunately we cannot reach you.
What to do if the present sells out
Let us imagine the worst: it is 2 January, the toy your child asked for is nowhere to be found and you have already been round half the district. This is what can be done, and what we do when people ask us:
- Reserve in November, which is the only solution that really works. An item set aside in your name cannot be taken by anyone else. Everything else is a stopgap.
- Ask about restocks with a date. Sometimes one last delivery arrives before Three Kings' Day. We will tell you the truth: whether it will arrive in time or not, without giving you the runaround.
- Look for a good alternative, not a poor substitute. There is almost always another set from the same range, another title in the same style of game or last year's version that your child will like just as much. We are here at the counter to help you with that.
- Fall back on an honest plan B: a voucher, or giving the box with a photo and the promise that it will arrive in a few days. It is not ideal, but it is better than an empty Three Kings' morning.
If you are not sure where to start looking for an alternative, have a look at our board games and toys collections, or write to us and we will suggest three specific options for your child's age and tastes.
Why Híper Ocio
We are not going to tell you that we are cheaper than the internet or that we have everything, because neither would be entirely true. What we do have is a century of telling the people of Albox that what is left until the last day does not arrive in time. That is not something you can improvise.
When you reserve with us in November, a person physically sets the box aside and puts your name on it. When you ask whether something will be here for Three Kings' Day, we answer with what we know, not with what you would like to hear. And if you live in the Almanzora, the Levante or Los Vélez and the present is a large one, our own van delivers it, not a courier who does not know the streets of your town. We are an official LEGO retailer and members of Toy Planet, so what comes in is genuine product with its guarantee. The legal guarantee in Spain is three years, and you have 30 calendar days from receiving your order to make a return. If you need to finance a large purchase, that option is available and we will explain it to you in store by appointment, with no complications.
Frequently asked questions
When should I buy Christmas and Three Kings' Day 2026 presents so I do not miss out?
Finalise the list in October and reserve in November what sells out every year: the standout LEGO set, the seasonal children's licences and new releases with small production runs. The first half of December is the comfortable zone to order with delivery. From 15 December you are cutting it fine.
What is the last day I can order for the present to arrive by Christmas Eve?
As a guide for mainland Spain, the first half of December is safe ground, and from the 18th or 19th it depends on the volume each day. During the season the usual delivery times of 24 to 48 hours stretch to 48 or 72, so it is best not to leave it until the last day.
And for it to arrive in time for Three Kings' Day?
For mainland delivery before the night of 5 January, treat an order placed around 30 December as a sensible deadline. Even so, the bigger problem is usually not delivery, but that the most sought-after items have been sold out since Christmas Eve.
Can I reserve a toy and collect it from the shop in Albox?
Yes, and in the days before Three Kings' Day it is the safest option. We set it aside in your name and you collect it whenever you like, without depending on any courier. You can let us know in advance or call into the shop in Albox.
Do you deliver large appliances throughout Spain?
White goods, cookers and hobs, and televisions we deliver only in the Valle del Almanzora, the Levante almeriense and Los Vélez, with our own van. Toys and small appliances do go to the whole of mainland Spain, with free delivery from €49.99.
What do I do if the present I want has sold out?
Ask us about a last restock with a date; if it will not arrive in time, we will suggest a good alternative from the same range or a voucher. The solution that really avoids the problem is to reserve in November.
