Bosch or Balay: which washing machine to buy in 2026 (and when a €240 one is enough)

“I just want a Bosch.” We hear that almost every week at the counter in Albox. And in many cases it makes perfect sense. In others, the person saying it ends up paying €250 too much for features they will never use. The difference between one case and the other is not the brand: it is how many people live in your home, where the washing machine will go and how many years you plan to keep it.
Bosch and Balay are the same house. Both belong to BSH, share factories, share technology and share the official technical service. What changes between them is the emphasis: Balay tends to give more capacity for the same money, while Bosch refines the finish, the noise level and the installation details. Knowing that already saves you half the debate.
In this guide we put on the table the four Bosch and Balay washing machines we work with, with real prices and energy-label figures, and also the three cheaper alternatives we have in the Albox shop. Because there are homes where a €240 washing machine does exactly the same job, and telling you so is part of our trade.
Bosch and Balay are the same company: what really changes
BSH Electrodomésticos España makes Bosch, Siemens and Balay. Balay is the group's Spanish brand and is made in Zaragoza. That they share a group means three very concrete things for you:
- The technical service is the same. BSH's official service covers the whole province of Almería. If it breaks down, you don't depend on us being available that week.
- The motor technology is the same idea with two names. EcoSilence at Bosch, ExtraSilencio at Balay. Brushless motor, with a 10-year manufacturer's guarantee in both cases.
- Spare parts are guaranteed for years. This is the real advantage of buying a big brand rather than one that appears and disappears from the market.
And the difference? In practice, Balay tends to offer more kilos of capacity for the same price, and Bosch tends to win on noise level and on installation details such as the removable top cover. It is a nuance, but it is the nuance that decides the purchase in half of cases.
The four Bosch and Balay models we work with, compared
We bring these four models to order: they are not physically in the Albox shop, we order them from the manufacturer when you place your order and we call you to confirm the date. We say it this plainly because we would rather you know before you buy.
| Model | Load | Spin speed | Noise | Minimum recess | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bosch WGE03200EP (Series 2) | 8 kg | 1200 rpm | 71 dB (class A) | 85 cm | €449.99 |
| Bosch WUU28T63ES (Series 6) | 8 kg | 1400 rpm | 71 dB (class A) | 82 cm | €489.99 |
| Bosch WUU28T68ES (Series 6) | 9 kg | 1400 rpm | 72 dB (class A) | 82 cm | €499.99 |
| Balay 3TS3107BD | 10 kg | 1400 rpm | 74 dB (class B) | 85 cm | €529.99 |
Bosch WGE03200EP: the honest entry point
This is Series 2, the simplest. 8 kg, 1200 revolutions, a genuine class A (46 kWh per 100 washes and 47 litres per cycle). It has an EcoSilence motor, SpeedPerfect to shorten the programme by up to 65%, and the function to pause and add that garment you left out.
What it doesn't have: a removable top cover, a WaveDrum drum or a Hygiene Plus programme. And it has no AquaStop, which is different from the “multiple water protection” it does include. If your washing machine is going in a utility room, outside a fitted kitchen, and there are two or three of you at home, the Bosch WGE03200EP is the sensible buy.
Bosch WUU28T63ES: the one that solves fitted kitchens
Same 8 kg, but it rises to 1400 revolutions, adds a WaveDrum drum, a Hygiene Plus programme (it removes germs by washing at 40 degrees instead of going up to 90) and, above all, a removable top cover. Taking off 25 mm, it comes down to exactly 82 cm. That is reason number one why people pay the €40 difference over Series 2, and in our experience it is money well spent if the washing machine goes under a worktop. The Bosch WUU28T63ES is the one we recommend most in flats in Albox and Huércal-Overa.
Bosch WUU28T68ES: 9 kg for families of four or five
It is the big sister of the previous one: same motor, same removable top cover, but one more kilo of load, a touch screen and specific programmes for down, dark clothes, shirts and microfibres. With 9 kg you can wash the duvet for a 150 cm bed at home without going to the laundrette. It uses 49 kWh per 100 cycles and 50 litres per cycle. If there are four or five of you and you do three or four loads a week, the Bosch WUU28T68ES is the point where Series 6 makes the most sense.
Balay 3TS3107BD: 10 kg and Plancha programme
The only one of the four with 10 kg and the only one with a Plancha (ironing) programme. It doesn't iron the clothes, but it works on them at the end of the cycle so they come out smoothed: with shirts and sheets, there are garments you hang up and never see an iron again. ExtraSilencio motor with a 10-year guarantee, VarioSoft drum and self-cleaning detergent drawer.
Two honest warnings: it is the noisiest of the four (74 dB, class B) and it has no removable top cover, so it needs a unit of 85 cm or more. If you wash for five or more, or if you have duvets for 180 cm beds, the Balay 3TS3107BD is the one that makes the most of every euro.
The measurement that ruins the most purchases: 82 cm versus 85 cm
If we had to keep just one piece of advice from this whole article, it would be this: measure the space before you look at prices. More often than we would like, the van arrives with a great washing machine and it doesn't fit under the worktop by two centimetres.
Standard washing machines are between 84.5 and 84.8 cm tall. Fitted kitchen worktops are usually at 85 cm, but there are a great many homes in the area with worktops at 82 cm, especially older buildings and kitchens put together by a bricklayer. There, only a washing machine with a removable top cover will fit: of the four above, only the two Bosch Series 6.
And don't forget the depth. The WUU28T68ES needs 63.2 cm with the door closed, and 106 cm free in front to open it fully. In a narrow utility room that matters as much as the height. Measure the height, the width, the depth and the space to open the door. Four numbers, two minutes, and you save yourself a headache.
When a Bosch is NOT worth it (and what to buy instead)
This is the part that usually goes untold. A €500 washing machine makes sense if you are going to keep it for twelve or fifteen years and if you are going to use what you pay for. If you live alone, if it is for a second home you use two months a year, or if the budget comes first, there are very decent options for half the money. And these ones we do have physically in the shop.
The Svan SL6203AIDV costs €239 and is, by the figures on the label, the most efficient in this whole article: 42 kWh per 100 cycles and 36 litres of water per cycle, against the 46-51 kWh of the BSH models. Inverter motor with a 10-year guarantee, steam function and 11 programmes. Its limits are clear: a 6 kg load and only 42.3 cm of depth, which makes it perfect for a narrow utility room and a bad idea for a family of five.
The Indesit IM 864 MY TIME SPT, at €299, is the 8 kg alternative. It spins at 1351 rpm, is class A, and its appeal is five quick cycles: a full 8 kg load in 59 minutes and a 14-minute programme to refresh garments. It is noisier (76 dB) and its finish is not that of a Series 6, but it washes the same 8 kg for €190 less.
And if what you need is capacity without spending much, the VOK EVW-10BAWB13 gives you 10 kg at 1400 rpm and class A for €349.99. That is €180 less than the Balay of the same capacity. What you lose is the Plancha programme, the backing of a brand with its own service in every province and the 10 years on the motor. For a home where a lot gets washed and the budget is tight, it is a reasonable buy.
Kilos, revolutions and class A: what really matters
Three figures decide almost everything, and one confuses a lot of people.
The kilos. The rule of thumb we use: 6 kg for one or two people, 8 kg for three or four, 9 kg for four or five, 10 kg for five or more or if you wash a lot of bedding. And note that a large washing machine at half load is not more efficient, even if it adjusts the water. Buying too much also costs you.
The revolutions. From 1200 to 1400 rpm the clothes come out noticeably drier. If you have a tumble dryer, that means fewer minutes and fewer kilowatts on every cycle. If you hang your washing in the sun (which in the Almanzora is almost always), the difference is much less noticeable and you may be able to skip that step up.
The energy class. Since March 2021 the scale runs from A to G and the old A+, A++ and A+++ disappeared. A class A washing machine today is the highest step that is made. If you see a shop advertising A+++ in 2026, it is using the old label.
And the figure that confuses: the Eco 40-60 programme lasts between three and a half and almost four hours. It is not faulty. It saves by heating less water and moving the clothes for longer, and it is the programme used to measure the official consumption. For everyday use there are the quick ones of 15, 28 or 59 minutes.
The 10-year motor guarantee: what it covers and what it doesn't
Bosch, Balay and Svan offer a 10-year manufacturer's guarantee on the motor. It is worth understanding exactly what that means: it covers that specific part, which is the most expensive one in the machine, and you have to register the product on the manufacturer's website. It does not cover the pump, the electronics, the heating element or the bearings.
The rest of the machine comes with the 3-year legal guarantee that everything we sell at Híper Ocio comes with. It is a very good guarantee on the component that costs the most to repair, but it is not “ten years of free washing machine”, and we would rather you know that now than later.
Prices, delivery and finance
We deliver white goods ourselves, with our own van, across the Valle del Almanzora, the Levante Almeriense and Los Vélez: Albox, Arboleas, Zurgena, Cantoria, Olula del Río, Macael, Albanchez, Tíjola, Serón, Purchena, Fines, Huércal-Overa, Vélez-Rubio and surrounding areas. We carry the appliance up, put it in its place and take the packaging away.
We do not offer nationwide delivery of washing machines or white goods. It is not for lack of willingness: agencies do not leave a 70 kg appliance in proper condition, and we prefer not to sell what we cannot deliver well. If you are outside the area, you can collect it from the Albox shop by appointment. For toys and small appliances we do ship throughout Spain, with free shipping from €49.99.
If you prefer to split the payment, at the end of your order you can choose Klarna (minimum amount according to their terms). You will find the details on the financing page. And if you need to return something, our policy is 30 days, as explained in the returns policy.
Why Híper Ocio
We are a family shop in Albox that opened in 1923. Today the fourth generation is in charge, with Antonio Martínez Rosado. That does not make our washing machines wash better, but it does change two things.
The first: we tell you when not to buy. If you live alone and come in for the 10 kg Balay because you saw it on offer, we will send you to the €239 Svan. We sell to people who will come back, and to people we run into at the supermarket.
The second: we are the ones who take it to your home. Not an agency that calls you at seven in the morning to say it will arrive “between 9am and 8pm”. If there is a problem with the measurements, we sort it out there and then.
What we are not: the cheapest shop on the internet. On a Bosch, a big marketplace can undercut us by €20 or €30. What we put on top is the advice beforehand, the van on delivery day and a person who answers the phone if something goes wrong. If that is not worth it to you, we understand perfectly.
We are at Avenida 28 de Febrero s/n, Albox (Almería), and on 950 430 738. You can see the whole range in the washing machines section.
Frequently asked questions
Are Bosch and Balay the same brand?
They are not the same brand, but they belong to the same group: BSH, which makes Bosch, Siemens and Balay. They share technology, factories and the official technical service. Balay is the group's Spanish brand and is made in Zaragoza. In practice, Balay tends to give more capacity for the same price, while Bosch refines the finish and the noise level.
Which washing machine fits in an 82 cm kitchen recess?
Only those with a removable top cover. Of the models in this guide, the Bosch WUU28T63ES and the Bosch WUU28T68ES: they are 84.5 cm tall and, taking off the 25 mm of the cover, they come down to exactly 82 cm. The Bosch WGE03200EP and the Balay 3TS3107BD have no removable cover and need a unit of 85 cm or more.
Is it worth paying €500 for a washing machine instead of €250?
It depends on how much you will wash and how many years you want to keep it. For a family of four or five doing three loads a week, the difference in finish, noise and durability pays for itself. For one person living alone, a second home or light use, a €239 Svan or a €299 Indesit do the same job and are more efficient than people think.
What does the 10-year motor guarantee mean?
It means the manufacturer covers the motor, the most expensive part of the machine, for a decade, as long as you register the product on its website. It does not cover the pump, the electronics or the heating element. The rest of the appliance comes with the 3-year legal guarantee that everything we sell comes with.
Do you ship washing machines throughout Spain?
No. We only deliver white goods in the Valle del Almanzora, the Levante Almeriense and Los Vélez, with our own van, because we prefer to deliver them ourselves and put them in their place. Outside that area you can collect it from the Albox shop by appointment. Toys and small appliances we do ship throughout Spain, free from €49.99.
Why does the Eco programme take almost four hours?
Because it saves energy by heating the water less and making up for it with more drum movement time. It is the programme the European Union uses to measure the official consumption on the label. For everyday use you have the quick cycles: 15 or 30 minutes on the Bosch and Balay models, and even a full 8 kg load in 59 minutes on the Indesit.
Can I pay for the washing machine in instalments?
Yes: at the end of your order you can choose Klarna, which shows you the instalment options available for your purchase before you confirm. You will find all the information on our financing page.
