👶 Grogu with Hover Pram: the set that makes you smile whether you want to or not
Some LEGO sets impress with their size, others with their complexity, and then there is the LEGO Star Wars 75403 Grogu with Hover Pram, which wins on sheer charm. When you open the box and start separating the numbered bags, you know perfectly well what you are going to build: that face with enormous eyes and impossible ears that won over the entire galaxy within a single episode of The Mandalorian. Even so, watching it appear piece by piece has a certain appeal.
This 1.048-piece set belongs to the family of large-scale buildable figures from LEGO Star Wars: it is not a vehicle or an action diorama, but a display model designed to sit on a shelf and stand up to close inspection. The Grogu figure is built in full, with its sand-coloured fabric robe, its little hands and that green head, which is probably the most satisfying part of the whole build. Alongside it you build the hover pram, the floating cradle in which the little one travels half the galaxy while Din Djarin fights with everyone.
If you are looking to buy LEGO 75403 as a gift or as a treat for your own collection, it is worth knowing one thing from the start: although the result is adorable, this is not a children's set for a Sunday afternoon. LEGO recommends it for ages 10 and up, and the build has considerably more substance than the finished model suggests.
📦 What you will find inside the box
The first surprise when you open the 75403 is the number of small pieces in shades of green and sand. Along with the main model, the set includes a series of details that are a pure nod to anyone who has watched The Mandalorian: the Sorgan frog built from bricks (yes, the one from that scene that traumatised half the internet), the gear stick knob from the ship that Grogu cannot stop stealing, and a biscuit that the figure can hold in its hands. They are three tiny accessories that completely change the feel of the whole set.
Contents of the LEGO Star Wars 75403 set:
- Buildable Grogu figure: the main model, with the robe, hands and head assembled brick by brick
- Buildable hover pram: the floating cradle in which Grogu travels, with a detailed interior
- LEGO Grogu minifigure: a standard-size minifigure, separate from the large model
- Mini hover pram for the minifigure: a miniature version of the cradle, also buildable
- Information plaque: the information sign that completes the display base
- Sorgan frog: built from LEGO bricks, the little one's favourite snack
- Gear stick knob: the accessory Grogu will not let go of, not even under threat
- Biscuit: another accessory the figure can hold in its hands
⚙️ The mechanisms: articulation where you least expect it
This is the part you cannot see in the set photos. The large Grogu figure is not a rigid block: it has an articulated head and ears, so you can change its expression by turning the head to one side or tilting the ears downwards. It sounds trivial until you have it in front of you and discover that, depending on how you position it, the character goes from curious to sleepy or downright sulky.
The arms move by turning discs located on the sides of the model, a simple but very clean mechanism that avoids having to handle the figure by its hands. It is the kind of solution LEGO calls a "play function", and here it mainly serves to place Grogu in exactly the pose you want: arms up asking for a cuddle, arms down, or holding the biscuit.
The other important feature is that Grogu can be displayed inside or outside the hover pram. It is not a fixed model: you can keep him inside the cradle, in the classic pose from the series, or take him out and place the two elements separately on the shelf. Two models for the price of one, with everything that implies when deciding how to display it.
🎬 Faithful to The Mandalorian
What the set handles best is the proportion between head and body, which is exactly what makes the character work. The ears have the right length and the right angle; the eyes, made with large round pieces, have that expression somewhere between innocent and calculating that characterises Grogu when he is about to eat something he shouldn't. The robe falls with its folds marked by stepped pieces, and the whole model stands on a base that forms part of the design itself.
The set was released in 2025 as part of the LEGO Star Wars line and was designed by George Gilliatt. It is an officially licensed Lucasfilm product, with everything that means in terms of design approval: every proportion and every colour shade is signed off by the studio before reaching production.
🧱 The building experience
With 1.048 pieces, building the 75403 takes a good few hours spread over several sessions, or one long afternoon if you really get stuck in. It is not a technically demanding set (there are no gears or complex mechanisms), but it does require attention: much of the build involves placing curved and angled pieces to form the head, and there a single misplaced stud shows in the final result.
The bags are numbered and the instructions are the usual LEGO Star Wars ones: step by step, with the new pieces highlighted on each page. The set is also compatible with the LEGO Builder app, which lets you view the model in 3D, rotate it, zoom in and save your progress. For Grogu's head, being able to rotate the digital model and check where each piece goes in saves more than one hold-up.
🎯 Who this set is for
The LEGO Grogu with Hover Pram 75403 is recommended for ages 10 and up, and that figure makes sense both for the number of pieces and the type of build. That said, it is a set bought by many people who passed 10 quite some time ago: it fits perfectly with the profile of the adult Star Wars fan who wants a recognisable display piece without taking on a project of several thousand pieces.
This set is a particularly good fit if you are looking for:
- A Star Wars gift for children aged 10 or older who already build medium-sized sets
- A display figure that is instantly recognisable, without taking up half a shelf
- A set for adult fans who would rather build a character than yet another grey ship
- An addition to an existing LEGO Star Wars collection
- A project to build as a family, sharing out the hover pram and the figure
- A gift for fans of The Mandalorian who want something more than a keyring
📐 Dimensions and where to display it
Once built and with Grogu inside the hover pram, the model measures approximately 19 cm high, 18 cm long and 16 cm wide. In real terms: it fits on a standard bookshelf, on a desk next to the monitor or in a display cabinet without having to rearrange anything. It is a very well-chosen size, large enough to appreciate the facial details and compact enough not to become a space problem.
