Staunton chess sets are the standard in chess competitions and tournaments. The name "No. 4" refers to the size of the pieces, with size No. 4 being one of the most common. In this case, the height of the king is usually around 7.6 to 8.9 cm (3 to 3.5 inches).
Staunton chess pieces are characterized by their distinctive design: the king with a cross on top, the queen with a small crown, the bishop with a cutout on the top resembling a mouth, the knight carved to resemble at the head of a knight, the rook resembling a castle tower, and the pawns with a simple ball on top.
