The dilophosaurus lived 200-192 million years ago in the early stages of the Jurassic. It was up to twenty feet long and was one of the first large carnivorous dinosaurs we know of.
After the compsognathus and the velociraptor, the dilophosaurus was one of the fastest lizards of its time. Despite being six meters long, it weighed only 500 kg and had long and powerful hind legs, with which it could run without exertion at speeds of up to 38 km/h. On its skull it had two bony crests, due to which it is also known as the ″lizard with the two crests″. Even though they were big and long, they were too skinny to defend themselves with. Scientists believe that they were used to impress their rivals.
